Have you been living with crooked teeth your entire life? You may have thought traditional orthodontics were your only option but found the idea of a mouth full of metal wires and brackets unappealing. Invisalign invisible braces might just be an ideal solution.

Invisalign will give you beautiful, straight teeth without the discomfort and appearance of traditional braces—often in less time. Invisalign uses a system of clear, custom trays to gently move your teeth into proper alignment. The trays, called aligners, are changed every few weeks until your teeth are perfectly straight.

Because the trays are removable, you take them out for eating and cleaning your teeth. In order for your treatment to be successful, however, you must commit to leaving them in for at least 22 hours a day.

Most treatment plans last for about a year, which can be much quicker than traditional orthodontics. Depending on your goals, your treatment might be shorter or longer. Dr. Drew Spencer will work with you to create a plan that works for your goals.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Invisalign?

Almost all dental issues that are corrected by traditional braces can be corrected with Invisalign, including:

  • Crowding or crooked teeth
  • Protruding teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Some bite issues

What Are Some of the Advantages of Invisalign?

Patients who opt for Invisalign will find that they need fewer dental appointments. Rather than undergo frequent appointments to tighten wires and ensure brackets are holding strong, you’ll simply swap out aligners every few weeks.

Brushing and flossing are easier with Invisalign because you can remove the aligners for cleaning your teeth. You also won’t experience any of the permanent marks that metal brackets can sometimes leave on teeth.

You don’t have to worry about food restrictions with Invisalign because the aligners are removed for eating.

Because there are no wires with Invisalign, you don’t have to worry about an errant wire poking your mouth, causing pain or even injury. A broken wire can also mean you need to make an extra appointment with your dentist. The clear plastic aligners worn with Invisalign are comfortable and irritation free.

How Should I Care for Invisalign?

Your Invisalign treatment plan will include a cleaning kit, which you can use to keep your aligners clean and free of bacteria. Don’t use hot water to rinse or clean your aligners or leave them in a hot car. Heat can be damaging to the plastic, causing it to warp.

If an aligner ever becomes cracked or otherwise damaged, be sure to call your dentist immediately. A damaged aligner will not effectively move your teeth.

When you remove the aligners for eating, be sure to brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in. Not doing so can create an opportunity for bacteria to grow; it can also cause the aligners to become damaged or stained.
